The Blaenau Ffestiniog to Betws-y-Coed section of the Snowdon Slate Trail takes walkers from the historic slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog into the wooded valleys and riverside scenery of southern Eryri (Snowdonia). Leaving behind the dramatic quarry landscapes and towering slate tips surrounding Blaenau Ffestiniog, the route gradually transitions into quieter countryside, forestry tracks and mountain paths with regular views across the surrounding hills and valleys. The changing scenery makes this one of the most visually varied sections of the wider trail.

As the route approaches Betws-y-Coed, walkers enter one of North Wales’ most popular outdoor destinations, known for its forests, rivers and traditional stone-built character. The area around Betws-y-Coed offers scenic waterfalls, woodland walks and easy access to several mountain routes within the national park. Along the way, sections of the trail follow rough tracks and upland paths shaped by the region’s industrial heritage and natural geography. This stage provides a rewarding combination of mountain scenery, historic landscapes and quieter forested stretches that showcase a different side of the Snowdon Slate Trail.
