Forest Trails and Historic Slate Landscapes
The Beddgelert to Blaenau Ffestiniog section of the Snowdon Slate Trail leads walkers through some of the most atmospheric landscapes in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Leaving the riverside village of Beddgelert behind, the route heads through forest tracks, open countryside and quieter mountain terrain where views of surrounding peaks and valleys regularly open up along the way. The changing scenery combines dense woodland, streams and exposed upland sections, creating a varied and rewarding walking experience through the heart of North Wales.
As the trail approaches Blaenau Ffestiniog, the landscape becomes increasingly shaped by the region’s industrial past. Vast slate tips, quarry remains and old mining features dominate the scenery around the town, reflecting its importance within the Welsh slate industry. Blaenau Ffestiniog itself is surrounded by dramatic mountain backdrops and is now well known for outdoor attractions including Zip World Llechwedd and the Ffestiniog Railway. This section offers walkers a memorable combination of natural scenery and industrial heritage, with several steady climbs and rougher paths adding to the sense of adventure along the route.

Elevation profile
The chart shows the route from start to finish. If a hotel has been selected, its nearest position on the route is shown as a highlighted marker.
The route shown is intended to give a general sense of how nearby accommodation is positioned in relation to the walk, helping you gauge proximity rather than providing a detailed navigation guide. While the map outlines the route, it should be viewed as an overview only and may not reflect every turn, feature, or on-the-ground condition you may encounter.
For the walk itself, it is advisable to use a reliable map and/or an electronic navigation aid to assist with route finding, particularly in areas where paths may be less distinct or conditions change. Taking time to plan ahead, check local information, and prepare for varying terrain and weather will help ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience.
