The Betws-y-Coed to Bangor section of the Snowdon Slate Trail takes walkers from the forested heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park towards the coastal city of Bangor in North Wales. Beginning in Betws-y-Coed, the route passes through wooded valleys, riverside scenery and quieter rural landscapes before gradually descending towards lower ground. Along the way, walkers can enjoy changing views of hills, farmland and traditional Welsh villages while following a mixture of countryside paths, tracks and quieter roads.

As the route continues northwards, the dramatic mountain scenery slowly gives way to gentler landscapes shaped by both agriculture and the historic slate industry. Sections of the trail still reflect the area’s quarrying past, while Bangor itself provides a striking contrast with its historic cathedral, university setting and coastal location overlooking the Menai Strait. This stage offers a more relaxed walking experience compared to some of the tougher upland sections elsewhere on the Snowdon Slate Trail, while still delivering scenic variety and a strong sense of North Wales heritage throughout the journey.
