About Windermere and the surrounding area
Windermere town lies close to, but not on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park. The nearby town of Bowness-on-Windermere that effectively merges with Windermere itself does however border the lake with a ferry jetty to serve the lake cruises. There are many hotels in Windermere due to its popularity as one of the prime tourist destinations within the Lake District National Park.
