Saltash is a charming town located in southeast Cornwall, England, known as the "Gateway to Cornwall" due to its position at the county's border with Devon. The town is renowned for the remarkable Royal Albert Bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, which crosses the River Tamar and connects Saltash to Plymouth. Saltash is steeped in history, with landmarks such as Trematon Castle, an 11th-century Norman keep, and Mary Newman's Cottage, the oldest building in Saltash, dating back to the 15th century. Saltash also offers a range of local amenities, including shops, cafes, and pubs.Surrounding Saltash are several places of interest. Westwards, you can explore the charming coastal villages of southeast Cornwall, including Looe and Polperro, both famous for their picturesque harbours and narrow, winding streets. A short drive southward leads to the Rame Peninsula, with its beautiful beaches and panoramic views across Plymouth Sound.
