About Lynton and Surrounding Area
Lynton is a small town located on the northern coast of Devon, England, within the Exmoor National Park and close . It's known for its high sea cliffs (England's highest sea cliffs) and the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway, a Victorian funicular that connects Lynton to its twin town Lynmouth at the sea level. The railway, entirely water-powered, offers stunning views over the Bristol Channel and is a remarkable example of Victorian engineering. The Valley of Rocks, just west of Lynton, is another significant landmark, notable for its dramatic geology and feral goat herd. Lynton's town centre offers quaint boutiques, traditional pubs, and a small cinema, The Lynton Cinema, offering a variety of films in an intimate setting. Nearby towns and villages each offer their unique charm.
Lynmouth, just below Lynton, has a picturesque harbour and offers access to the South West Coast Path. Further east along the coast, the town of Combe Martin is known for its wildlife park and nearby Silver Mine. Inland, the village of Parracombe has several listed buildings and a historic church. Simonsbath, to the south, is a small village on the River Barle with several walking trails leading into the heart of Exmoor. These neighbouring locations, coupled with the natural beauty of Exmoor National Park, make Lynton a fantastic base for exploring North Devon.
