Great location with free designated parking space. We were greeted by a lovely pleasant young lady, Sarah. Check-in was quick and simple and Sarah was very helpful and informative, even printing off a gluten free menu for the restaurant at the sister hotel. We had been upgraded(free) to a superior room with a view overlooking the river and bridge! The room was very large with extra king size very comfortable bed with bedside tables and power points each side, There was a desk/dressing table with mirror, and tea/coffee water and biscuits, plus a large armchair with coffee table by the huge window next to the river!
There were 2 double wardrobes, with auto lights inside, plenty of hangars and a safe, plus full length mirror. The bathroom had full length bath with double shower over with plenty of hot water, and a heated towel rail, plus toiletries and shaver point.
After unpacking, we went to the conservatory/ lounge for complimentary tea/coffee and scones(GF available). Our room was nice and warm and we slept very well.
The full english cooked breakfast (GF available)(pre order night before) was very good with 2 eggs, and brought to the table. My wife (who is Ceoliac) spoke to the chef and the waitress who both had a full understanding of the specific needs of GF preparation! There was a good selection of continental breakfast plus juice tea/coffee self service. The whole place was spotless throughout. Its in an ideal location for touring/walking. The hotel was quiet and peaceful and we would highly recommend it!!

Grasmere is full of lovely walks, you don't have to wander far to be in a super stunning surrounding. The walk around the lake is a pretty easy one to follow mainly flat and has a direct path so hard to get lost, but theres definitely opportunities to wander further a field, up into the hills, or over to the caves also from here. The lake is also a great place to paddle board or boat around, it's large enough and not too busy.
We absolutely loved Mathilde's Café at the Heaton Cooper Studio, the food was just delicious and such a pretty shop, great little seating spot outside providing blankets for al fresco dining. Sam Read Bookshop was also worth a look, there are a number of really lovely shops aside from all the main tourist hot spots in Grasmere. We also enjoyed a drink at Tweedies bar which had a lovely atmosphere and be a great place in the summer as it had a lovely beer garden setting to sit outside.

It was beautifully situated ans very tastefully decorated.
It was beautifully situated ans very tastefully decorated. The only downside is there wasn't a shower in our room and I have mobility issues. Also no full length mirror. The bathrooms are rather small, we burnt ourselves on the radiator a few times using the toilet. Obviously that wouldn't be a problem in Summer. I would stay there again but would want a room with a shower which would also give more room to move around.
The food was really good we ate there each night. Bit confused with breakfast. One day we got two slices of bacon the next day one and the poached eggs we're hit and miss, but there was plenty buffet which was excellent.
All in all a lovely place to stay with lovely staff, places to visit all around and breathtaking views.

We walked up Loughrigg Fell loop from Hotel, wonderful walk ..lots of other options of walks too. Ate at The Grasmere Inn ..sister Hotel ..was very bust..we did book ..lovely cosy feel but wa disappointed with the food .it was average ...burger v dry ..service not best ...althoughvery friendly....New waiter though. Wished we had tried somewhere else ...busy not always the best option!
THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS . WE ALWAYS ENJOY THE BREAKFASTS WHEN STAYING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT . WE CAN NEVER FIND THE SAME QUALITY OF SAUSAGES AT HOME . AND THE STEAK AND ALE PIE WAS PERFECT ALONG WITH THE VEGETABLES . ALL OF THE STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL AND EFFICIENT THROUGHOUT OUR STAY. AND THE HOTEL IS IN A PERFECT POSITION TO WALK INTO GRASMERE VILLAGE OR TO CATCH A BUS INTO OTHER AREAS ON OUR DAY RIDER BUS TICKET . OVERALL WE ENJOYED A LOVELY FEW DAYS BREAK IN THE LAKES . AND AT THE HOTEL ITSELF. THANK YOU.BILLY
Victorian House Hotel was honestly one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Our room was clean, cozy, and so thoughtfully and wonderfully decorated. The complimentary breakfast was so nice as well, like genuinely delicious and filling, and it added so much value to what we paid per night. They also offer yummy complimentary soup every night, which we definitely took advantage of in their charming dining area. I couldn't speak more highly of our stay or recommend this place enough!
Friendly owners and the location just outside of Grasmere village is excellent. We arrived by bus but were able to walk to the property as we didn’t have too much luggage. I enjoyed the free continental breakfast, though it would be nice to add a hard-boiled egg for some protein. Our room was clean and peaceful with a view of the garden behind the house. After check-out I was able to leave my luggage at the property for a few hours.
Lovely historic, cosy country inn. The hotel is located close to Grasmere, about a mile away, on the main road between Ambleside and Keswick. We had a meal in the restaurant and the food was delicious. Our room was comfortable with a good sized bathroom and rainfall shower. The walls are quite thin so this is something to be aware of but we still had a good night's sleep. Definitely would stay again.
Had a lovely stay even though the hotel was full it felt very peaceful. Staff very helpful especially Kim. Nice touch is the pantry offering complimentary fresh scones, pastries and drinks all afternoon.Excellent choice of breakfast. We stayed bed and breakfast but enjoyed an evening meal at The Inn (which is the sister hotel). Thanks Kim and all the staff for a lovely stay we will definitely be back.
I loved Heidis as:
Emma the Manager is lovely, very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The rest of the staff are great also.
The location is marvellous-right in the centre of Grasmere
The improvements in decor and breakfasts and rooms are amazing. It didnt need much improvement but Emma has enhanced the place so much whilst she was shut in the Pandemic so hands off to her- job well done.
We’ve been here approx 5-6 times, absolutely love the location and the facilities and it’s great that there’s a spa and it’s dog friendly. The ladies on the reception desk couldn’t have done more for us, they were extremely professional, helpful and friendly. Sorry I can’t remember their names! We’ve stayed at a few different hotels in Grasmere and this is by far the best one.
It’s well located just outside Grasmere, from the moment we arrived the staff were friendly, helpful and charming. Our room was excellent and spotless and our evening meals were also superb as was breakfast. It’s also very attractive inside now, it’s obviously had a face lift since our last visit and much improved but the staff stand out especially for praise. Thank you.
We had a lovely two-night stay at the Victorian House Hotel. The hotel is located in the heart of Grasmere and is full of charm.
Thank you so much for your warm welcome. From the excellent breakfasts, to a fine pint of local ale in the evening, we could not fault you.
An extra bonus was the heated boot/drying room which was extremely useful when it rained.
Beautiful hotel in a central location within Grasmere. Breakfast was very tasty and served quickly. We had a room with a view of the long drive leading up to the hotel. The grounds were lovely. Staff were very friendly. Loved the toiletries in the bathroom!
Love, love, love this hotel. Our go-to in Grasmere. Not big or fussy like other hotels but a small, different, intimate place, where you can make friends or be left alone. Lovely quiet gardens to relax in but on doorstep to lovely Grasmere itself.
Location for grasmere. Great hotel and spa.. need the spa after climbing skafell pike.. but was hour n half drive through the hills to get there from skafell..helvellyn is just up the road. Grasmere village is 5 min walk away.
located in Grasmere which is quite in the middle of Lake District . Situated at the edge of the village so it is rather quiet. nice garden and private stream. Breakfast is rich. Room is clean. enough parking.
The Wordsworth is a lovely hotel in the heart of Grasmere and I have stayed here several times previously. The rooms have been upgraded since I last stayed and are very well appointed and comfortable.
Great location right in the heart of Grasmere. Lovely cooked breakfast (chose Eggs Benedict) over the road at The Inn at Grasmere. So nice to use the pool and relaxation area in the hotel too.
We were very pleased with the hotel and the restaurant and the location is ideal. Grasmere is a great place to stay, despite the rain. We found the staff extremely helpful and cheerful.
We have stayed here before, the Spa facilities, location of hotel and quality of stay is exactly what we were after and we will definitely be staying again. All food was excellent.
