The George Inn, hotel in Oakham

Located in the town centre of Oakham, the The George Inn is 1.5 miles from Rutland Water. The area is popular for sailing, trout fishing, bird watching and cycling.

The hotel itself was lovely but it just needs a little TLC, Positive - The room is massive, the breakfast was lovely, the staff are great, perhaps a little pricey but even after the negatives would probably stay there again.

I love the scenery, the wildlife, I'm a walker, so great walks, the town of oakham has everything u need, but what I like most is it's not commercialised, still a pretty little market town.i also used train & went to peterborough, the parking at the station was only £2.50 for the whole day. I had lunch one day at a lovely little cafe tucked in the corner of the market Square called Hungry Birds.

There are some pretty villages around in this area. Also, of course, Rutland Water is a great attraction, with walks, cycle rides and many water activities. Oakham itself has the remains of a castle with a tearoom.

Peaceful location, lovely courtyard room with everything needed, including a very comfortable bed. Fantastic breakfast and excellent evening meal on the day we chose to eat there. It was nice staying next to the bar - we could have a drink in the evening without worrying about who was going to drive. We're not golfers, but learned a bit about the sport while we were there! Also was great to be so close to the Nature Reserve and able to walk around Rutland Water.

Barnsdale Lodge was a great location as we were visiting Barnsdale Gardens for afternoon tea etc. Our plan the next day was to walk across the dam and more at Rutland Water. A visit into Oakham and Melton Mowbray. So a super location. Our room over looked the Courtyard and was clean and well stocked with tea/coffee/biscuits etc. Staff were helpful and friendly all around. Breakfast had a good choice and set you up for the day.

Very efficient staff, especially Daniel. Wonderful welcome on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely, cosy public areas with open fires. A steady stream of customers providing good atmosphere. Easy parking at rear of hotel. Excellent food, huge breakfast. Quiet bedroom in the courtyard area. Super power shower. Nice town to explore. Couldn't fault it. Well done everyone at the Admiral Hornblower.

Lovely location on the green of a lovely village and within very easy driving distance of Oakham and Rutland Water. The decor had been lots of attention and the layout of the hotel managed to be rambling/eclectic and thoroughly usable at the same time. Super outdoor area and dining room to the rear. The rooms are genuinely boutique and well-crafted.

Fantastic view from the room and very comfortable bed. The hotel was very clean and the restaurant was nicely decorated, again making the most of the views. Rutland Water was very accessible for walks straight from the door. Nice decoration and great to have tea, coffee, water and bath robes in the room.

Lovely quiet location , within walking distance of shops, pubs and restaurants but also quiet walks. Lovely outside space to sit when the weather was nice and ample space for a family with growing teenagers to share. Well placed for Rutland Water but also ideally located to visit nearby cities and towns.

We were able to contact Tracey easily to access the property and for other queries. She always answered emails promptly. It was well located for Rutland Water and surrounding towns/villages. The property was bright and airy, spacious enough for 3 people and well resourced.

as soon as you walk in the door it’s excellent. the only issue inside is I prefer a higher water pressure when I am taking a shower. best thing was the air conditioning, I was there during a heat wave and all of travel buddies complained about the hotels not having air.

The setting and faded grandeur of the property is unique for this area, commanding as it does, an exceptional view of Rutland Water. The hotel and surrounds exemplify the homely and quirky nature of the Best Western hotel chain.
