Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.
Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town.
A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant!
There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay.
All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!

There were lots of local shops, cafes and a local market at the weekend. The old town centre was very quaint. It wasn't too busy or too quiet. There is a locally run cinema. It is less than 20mins on the train to York. The locals are friendly.

A lovely little town that has shops, a little market and nice cafe’s. You can see where James Herriot lived and worked and everything is in walking distance from where you park. There is plenty of parking and it’s free for an hour. It is a must see little town.
Our stay at The Poplars was lovely. It is conveniently located only a couple of blocks from the rail station and a short 30 minute walk to downtown Thirsk, where there are interesting things to see and do, including the James Herriot Museum, and several good places to eat. Amanda was very helpful in every way - breakfast was made to order and delicious, and the room had many extra touches that made for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Room was well decorated, warm and inviting with a very comfortable bed.
Quiet as not in or attached to the pub.
I was really only there to sleep for a couple of nights, but it is roomy enough with sofa and side tables, so using it as a base for a longer holiday would be fine.
Breakfast menu has several options, all generous.
Nice pub, told the food is great for lunch and evenings too.
Rural, with nice country views.
The location - just yards from the James Herriot Museum and a short walk to the town centre/marketplace.
The house itself - it's lovely and charming, I could happily live in it! The beds are comfortable, the shower is excellent and all the rooms have nice decor. The welcome chocolates were much appreciated too! I would gladly stay again if visiting Thirsk in the future.
The room was clean and contained everything we would need for our visit. We loved having exclusive access to the pool, hot tub and sauna. The grounds of the building and the location of the hotel are both beautiful. We visited Helmesley, Thirsk and Northallerton and took a lovely walk around the gardens.
We have stayed before and loved the location and the friendliness of the owner. The room was bright and airy, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was amazing. Parking was available and it has easy access to the town centre of Thirsk.
The location is perfect, a stones throw away from the centre of Thirsk, we didn't need to use the car at all as there is plenty to do within walking distance. The cottage was comfortable, set in a lovely little courtyard area.
A great hotel positioned perfectly in the centre of Thirsk.
Very friendly staff and excellent food - We had a family get together and they provided a table in an annex that was perfect for us.
Would highly recommend 👍
Food was excellent, very good quality and nice rage of different specials on the menu. Staff all very friendly and helpful, room clean and comfy, will be looking forward to staying again when in the area
Spotlessly clean, comfortable and cosy cottage. Great location with only a short walk to the centre of Thirsk. Welcome pack is a lovely touch. Everything you need to make it a home from home.
Good sized room with all usual facilities. The room was clean and good value for money. The hotel is right in the centre of Thirsk, and it’s great to have a Wetherspoons pub right below you!
Hotel is very nice, the staff were loverly and helpful. The restaurant was good but the menu is a bit limited. Hotel is in an exceleent location right in the middle of the town.
Lovely and big garden area with lots of places to sit and chill, nice peaceful location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great Breakfast. Comfy room, if not very big .
The property is extremely well maintained and offered great accomadation. Lovely little quirky bits like the Alice in Wonderland area. Lovely large bathrooms
