Although the keys were in the key safe, which we had the code for, Shirley met us for a nice chat as we arrived.
The property is right on the front overlooking the bay, it is so well furnished and beautifully clean.
We arrived when there was a rare heatwave and it was amazing, making evening strolls very relaxing.
Mallaig is gorgeous, with nice gift shops, cafes, bars and a generally nice feel.
The train journey to Fort William was a highlight of our stay, the Heritage Museum was interesting. Arisaig was more than worth a visit.
Our plan was to get the ferry to Skye but we didn't book it in time, nevertheless the road trip there was just as lovely. We would do it all again x

Fab location, handy for the morning ferry. Fridge in room. Lovely bathroom and very comfy bed. All very clean.
Established in 1902 The Morar Hotel is a family run hotel in the highlands in North West Scotland, 3 miles from Mallaig, the Southern gateway to the Isle of Skye.
Gorgeous part of the Highlands with good transport links !
Gorgeous part of the Highlands with good transport links ! Ferries and Trains ! The train journey is spectacular and worth every Penny and minute of the 5 hours from Glasgow or 2 hours plus from Fort William … I’m not a train spotter by any means or a Harry Potter fan but this journey as always been on my travel bucket list and did not disappoint!
Good bar / restaurant … great value great food at the top of the hill and friendly locals !! Be aware as you’d expect not a lot open in the depths of winter!! But enough and how I personally like it !!

The scenery was breathtaking, locals so friendly and helpful. Only downside several places were closed due to staff shortages.
Hotel was fantastic but the staff, the two Fiona's and Pawel were wonderful, above and beyond helpful

Mallaig is at its heart an old fishing town which has seen that part of its self-image eroded by the economics of fisheries across the land. Meanwhile it has become popular because of the steam railway and Harry Potter. Though this has improved the economy it feels like the place begrudges this new found dimension and would prefer to revert to its quieter fish-focussed past. Some of the restaurants feel like they are profiteering - £11 for 4 tiny pieces of salt and pepper squid slapped on the table is indicative. Overpriced dishes and underwhelming service. Is it me or do the staff in the hostelries and shops project an air that says they've had enough and want to scuttle off for their own vacation? They need to decide to up their game or move over for someone with more stamina, energy and understanding of customer service. Not somewhere for which I will hold fond memories. The exception to all this is the host of the pod who was bright and cheerful and could not be more helpful.

Plenty of places to eat.
Plenty of places to eat. Mallaig gets busy when the steam train(think Harry Potter) from Fort William arrives.
Surprisingly, many shops were closed on Saturday morning.
Great smoked fish and shellfish from Andy Race fish merchant, but shop not open on Saturday.

It has all the bustle of a busy ferry and fishing port.
It has all the bustle of a busy ferry and fishing port. It has a huge number of cafes, restaurants and tourist facilities. Great rail and road communications. Lovely circular walk above the town - great views.
Extremely well equipped kitchen, plus a few little extras to make life easier such as butter, bread, some lovely pastries, a bottle of wine - lovely personal touches we were not expecting. Father Stan was a fantastic host and the whole booking process/collection of keys was so easy - he responds super quick to any enquiries. The location is stunning and the accommodation itself exceeded our expectations. Lots of mod cons and a lovely big bathroom!
My second stay here over the years and just love this place. Rooms are modern, unfussy, comfortable, and immaculately clean. Located right in the center of Mallaig a short walk to the train, ferry, and restaurants. Blazing-fast internet. I remember the breakfast being excellent in the past and was sorry to miss it this time (catching a 6 am train). Took a room with an external but still private bathroom, and it was excellent value for money.
The glamping pod was obviously very small but this was expected. Despite its size it was very comfortable.
It's within very easy walking distance to the town and railway station which was ideal because we decided to come by rail rather than drive to Mallaig.
The views from the comfy patio chairs across to Rum, Eigg and Skye were stunning as were the dramatic sunsets.
The owners were really nice and always extremely helpful
Sharon was a pleasure, a great host that couldn't do enough for us. If you're sailing to or from Mallaig you couldn't be any closer to the ferry. Lovely ice cream in the shop below the accommodation and a lovely bakery over the road. The accommodation even has a little kitchen with a cooker and fridge etc that you are welcome to use should you wish to.
Perfect base to use the car ferry to Skye. 45 pounds round trip for family of 4 and mid-size SUV. Apartment is 2 minutes from ferry terminal. Accommodation is comfortable and clean on a quiet street. Equipped to self cater although we did not.. They have added a hanging rack to dry laundry if you need to use their washing machine.
Nice warm and friendly welcome. Clean room, and in a great location. Was passing through Mallaig enroute to Outer Hebrides so only stayed the one night. I didn't use the kitchen facilities but looked substantial for those wishing to use it, and there was a nice big washroom facility.
Perfect size and location, had everything we needed. They even provided oat milk for tea when I messaged to say we were vegan! We only stayed a few nights but feel like we got a lot out of Mallaig - and would definitely come back 😊
The location was incredible - right in the middle of Mallaig next to the port and all the restaurants. It was fun that the flat is an old bank - it gave it additional charm! It was such a comfortable place to stay in Mallaig.
This hotel is superb. We had a lovely, comfortable room with a sea view. The breakfast was great with a variety of options. This was the perfect base for exploring Mallaig and the surrounding area.
Good location, close to shops and places to eat. Nice view from my room. Hotel had lots of character. Good bathroom, comfy bed quiet and peaceful. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
The proximity of the lovely, quiet, beaches was wonderful. Fantastic for a beach based holiday and very close to Mallaig, which has a good few things to offer for a peaceful holiday.
Mallaig is lovely, scenery is absolutely amazing. The owners were really nice and welcoming. I had a very comfortable stay. Clean and tidy nice and cozy!
