A 14th century country house situated on the Welsh border of the Wye Valley, the Rhydspence is a former drovers inn surrounded by the countryside views.

We had a lovely two night stay at the Seven Stars. We had a comfortable room at the front of the building, which is situated right in the heart of Hay-on-Wye and very handy for the bookshops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Di gave us a warm and knowledgable welcome, along with her very friendly dog Captain. Big, tasty breakfasts fuelled us for our days out.
This B & B was a 16th Century inn and as you would expect this introduces some quirks to the layout and features of the building. And... it has a swimming pool! This is a fantastic feature for such a small establishment. It's fully heated, indoors and a great size for a leisurely swim when the bookshops have lost their lustre.
There is secure and free parking on site- it's a tight turn if the traffic is busy, but plenty of spaces once you're through the entryway.
Good value and very much recommended.
A lovely little town. Obviously you will most likely be going for the bookshops. There are also other interesting shops, and on one of the days we visited - Thursday - a market.
Lovely countryside around too

Hay is great , there is always something to do here. Some lovely antique shops and vintage bizarres. Great coffee shops and restaurants. The Castle has been restored and is a beautiful gift to behold. We love walking along the river to The Warren and having a dip in the cold water.
A little gem of a place.

Hay is a beautiful village with many historic buildings and interesting shops. There are many options for outdoor recreation in the area. One thing to note is that most shops close at 5 PM. My favorite meal was dinner at The Old Black Lion. Every meal I had in Hay was excellent. Please note if you are using the bus to get from the train station at Hereford to check the bus schedule yourself since Google Maps pulled from the wrong table. There is a lovely walking path along the River Wye with amazing views of the river.

A wonderful place to visit!
A wonderful place to visit! Quirky shops, vast array of book & antique shops and a lovely market. Coffee shops we’ve visited have all been excellent. My husband and I regularly visit for a night or two. We dine at the Blue Boar and occasionally the Indian restaurant- both superb!
Lovely walks, and a ambience of calmness & fresh air entices us back all seasons.
My daughter and I have also camped nearby- that’s was fabulous too!

pretentious!
pretentious!
Only one overpriced pub which did food I liked.. the food cost telephone numbers
A lot of visitors looked they had just come out of a 1960's folk festival
Er, since the advent of Amazon do we really need bookshops?
We loved how close the hotel was to the town centre of Hay-On-Wye, easy access to many bookshops and places to eat. Room 8 was a great surprise as you're in an anex at the back of the property which backs onto the pool. Granted this isn't for everyone, but as my wife and I used the pool it was very useful. Breakfast was 10/10 and the staff were very friendly, down to earth and couldn't do more to help. If you're looking for a cost effective place to stay whilst visiting Hay-On-Wye, look no more.
A wonderful apartment in Hay! From the meeting with the owner for the handover and tour of the apartment to our experience of living in a great apartment in this beautiful and eclectic town, our experience was really special. It was exactly what we needed and felt very comfortable, even having friends over for wine and cheese in the spacious living area. It was a perfect home-away-from home. Looking forward to returning in the future. Will definitely stay here again.
Perfect in every way, tucked away in a peaceful spot with a lovely south facing outdoor space and stream at the bottom of the garden (separated by a fence). The cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped with lovely touches such as cut flowers, welcome goodies and a very helpful visitor guide. An easy stroll into Hay with all its amenities. A great weekend with weather to match. We look forward to returning !
Irene and Barry were extremely welcoming and we were greated with some freshly made muffins and all we needed to make ourselves a lovely breakfast in the morning. The hut is suprisingly spacious and has all the modern comforts. It is just a short drive down to Hay-on-Wye and about 40 minutes from Hereford.
We came for a weekend but would have happily stayed for a week. Highly recommended.
The Smithy is a fantastic bed and breakfast and I would recommend it to anyone staying near the town of Hay-on-Wye. Our host were brilliant - extremely helpful attentive. The location was amazing, with some stunning views from the bedroom window. The breakfast was exceptional and definitely filled us up before we started our day in Hay!
Highly recommend!
Friendly, helpful staff; excellent food (well-deserved gastro pub reputation) comfortable room; seemed well organised in terms covid safety. Hay is a great place to stay - the river Wye, the hills, the horse riding nearby, and of course the bookshops. The hotel was a very good base for two friends on a holiday.
Lovely, clean room with a lot of space, comfortable bed, and great ensuite facilities. The flat-screen TV was a nice bonus! Very friendly and accommodating staff. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. Very close to the centre of Hay but on a quiet street.
The house was very well designed, had lots of storage space and was really clean. All bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms, which was brilliant. The welcome hamper was...welcome. Location was perfect, right in the town. The electric charging point next to the house was a bonus.
Had a lovely 2 night stay. The B&B is in a fantastic location and the room was very spacious. Breakfast was fantastic and had every need catered to. Really lovely that there were plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices for breakfast. Will definitely be coming back!
Spacious tents, very comfortably fitted out but still felt like camping. Toilet and shower facilities good. Nice communal tent with generous breakfast and hospitable all day tea and coffee. Easy walking distance to cental Hay. Charming and attentive hosts

The flat was in a quiet location within walking distance of Hay-on-wye with a parking place. The flat was very bright and felt spacious. The kitchen had all that was required and the shower was good. Perfect place for book lovers to stay.
This was a hotel in quirky “”Hay on Wye” where anything goes in the fashion stakes. It really is a lovely hotel in a lovely location, fabulous views and lovely friendly staff. They couldn’t do enough to help.
Lovely hotel, we had a delightful view of the garden. Nice meal in the restaurant and excellent breakfast. A charming hotel with character in a great location.
