This Premier Inn hotel is located on the Clovelly Road, a little west of the main town centre and close to the Affinity Devon Outlet Shopping centre (formally the Atlantic shopping outlet). This hotel is ideal for the town and a new addition to the existing hotels in Bideford, great for shopping and leisure, with the modern outlet village, the High street with its independent shops and the Bidiford Pannier Market full of small stalls of local produce. This market town sits on the Torridge estuary though has a quayside and fishing vessels as this is effectively a sheltered port.
Within the town the quayside is interesting in its own right , not your traditional coastal quay as it is a river however there is genially always something happening, with a small scale port loading china clay into reasonable sized vessels to the ferry and supply ship that services nearby Lundy Island from both Bideford and Iifracombe.
Again from the Bideford quayside you can see the area known as East-the-Water across the river, a continuation of the town on the east bank accessed via the Grade I listed Bideford Long Bridge, one of the longest medieval bridges in England, at 677 feet.
The famous trail, inspired by the fictional character Tarka the Otter also passes through Bideford and this is an opportunity to take a relaxing walk with stunning scenery using part of the old issued railway line along the river where it is naturally flat and level. There are also opportunities for bike hire in Bideford as this is also a popular cyclist route and it is possible to cycle to Barnstaple (where there is another hotel from this chain) virtually traffic free
Around the town there is plenty to do and see, just a very short drive north of the town the suburb of Northam leads to two very fine beaches, at Westward Ho! And Northam Burrow's though they are effectively a continuation of the same very long sandy beach. Westward Ho! is a seaside village containing a small selection of shops, amusements and rides , and restaurants though is not commercialised. Northam Burrows and Northam Burrows Country Park is an area of salt marsh and sand dunes before leading up to the beaches, with sheep and ponies wandering freely and ample parking with fine views across the Torridge & Taw Estuary, towards Saunton Sands beach, another vast sandy area. The two beaches do have a high large cobbled sea defence which can be a bit of a scrabble though there are a few walkways to assist - its well worth the it for the vies and beach when you get over.
Again not too far from the Premier Inn between Northam and Westward Ho! , England’s oldest golf course can be found set close the salt marshes, the views are stunning and the air is naturally fresh being o the coast – a great course that any keen golfer should try and it is open to visitors.
Facilities at the Premier Inn are as good as you would expect from the hotel chain, A very modern build of the latest design offers free parking, free WiFi, The new type /style comfy king sized beds, flat screen TV, air conditioning, disabled access , lifts and an in house restaurant and bar. The shopping Outlet opposite the Premier Inn also contains a Costa Coffee shop where you can sit, relax and feel content
